Dear Winter,

I must admit, you have never really been my favorite season, with your gray and dreary days, biting cold and seemingly endless snow, but I find that, now that I am able to see you through the eyes of my children, my general distaste for you is beginning to change. You see, today as I watched your fluffy, white snowflakes blanket the earth I was touched by your peaceful purity. As I listened to my children's laughter echo through your quiet skies, caught snowflakes on my tongue and lay in the snow making angels with my children, I marveled at how magnificently you capture the essence of childhood. And as we sipped our hot cocoa and snuggled on the couch under warm blankets, I was grateful for the opportunity you gave me to cuddle with my babies. So thank you, winter. Thank you for reminding me that, even the coldest and grayest of days can be filled with love, laughter, magic and miracles!

thanks for the poem valerie !!! I really like it. it funny how snow can be different in places.. when it snows out here, is grey the day it snow (this past sunday) But since monday it has been clear sky and all sun AND the snow is still 10 inches on the ground, wyoming is really different than ohio winters. I love the winters out here well that is minus the -degree temp that is has been.. I am going to steal your 5 things too. it makes me smile :)

Oh, you are so much more positive than I am. Mine would be more like,

"Dear winter, I liked you when I was young, before I had children. You know, back when I only had to put socks and shoes on one pair of feet -- my own. But now? I have to bundle up ten feet, ten hands, wrap five necks in miles of scarves and get the last kid out the door before the first one out decides it is already time to come back in. I loved you when I didn't have to mop up ten boots worth of melting, muddy snow; when I didn't have to find places for 10 mittens, 10 socks, and miles of scarves to dry; when I could sit and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa without having to scrape a screaming child off the floor because s/he slipped on a puddle of melted snow of his/her own making and bashed his/her head on the kitchen floor. Winter, I used to like you, but now you kinda suck."

How do you maintain your optimism? Because I need to take lessons.
